Timeline

Dates are provisional and follow the Heartfall calendar: BH = before Heartfall, AH = after.

1. 60 BH to 25 BH

   Early Heartland

   The heart of Bitterroot is farmed, travelled and full of roads, trade and settlements.

2. about 22 BH

   The Long Survey

   A great mapping effort records the roads, rivers and towns. Its maps later prove that the land itself changed.

3. 13 BH to 4 BH

   First Anomalies

   Misplaced landmarks, odd seasons and impossible tree ages are written down but not yet understood.

4. about 3 BH

   The Black Grove

   Ancient-looking forest is found where pasture stood a short time before.

5. Year 0

   Heartfall

   The first undeniable transformation of the old Heart of Bitterroot.

6. 1 AH to 20 AH

   Early Encroachment

   The forest grows in pockets. Isolated farms and small roads are abandoned.

7. about 20 AH to 50 AH

   The Severing

   Roads are lost for good and settlements are cut off or vanish.

8. about 40 AH onward

   The Whisper Years

   Voices, impossible echoes and misleading paths give the Whispering Woods its name.

9. about 80 AH onward

   Whispering Woods Era

   The Woods are known as a dangerous place of their own. The stories of the saga so far take place in this era.

   • When the Howling Hills Drowned to be placed · When the Howling Hills Drowned
   • Brackenjaw Enclave and its Boundary Wardens (Ragna and Pip Holt) about 150 years after Arrax, to be fixed
