Story tapes
Every chapter of the saga, read aloud. The narrator's voice shifts with the story: hushed, tense, warm or breathless, the way a storyteller reads by the fire.
The first chapter tapes arrive with the first chapters.

High above the village of Elmsby, on a hill shaped like a sleeping wolf, there stood an old stone tower. And every night, for as long as anyone could remember, a single lantern glowed in its window.
Nobody knew who lit it. The baker said it was a ghost. The blacksmith said it was a lonely wizard. But young Tamsin, who was nine and afraid of absolutely nothing, decided she would find out for herself.
So one winter night, she climbed. The snow crunched beneath her boots. The wind went quiet. And the higher she went, the darker the trees became, until the only light left in the whole world was that tiny lantern, flickering above her.
She pushed the tower door. It creaked open. And there, curled beside the lantern, were two enormous amber eyes, staring right back at her.
Tamsin gasped! The eyes blinked! And out of the shadows padded a great black wolf, with frost in her fur and a lantern handle held gently in her teeth!
The wolf set the lantern down at Tamsin's feet, and nudged it toward her. Because some lights, it turns out, are kept burning not to scare travellers away, but to guide them safely home. And from that night on, there were two keepers on Wolfback Hill.
